5:00 am - We Know By The Moon That We Are Not Too Soon.

This Journal is Friend's Mostly.

I'm not adding any other journals to my f-list (it's hyooge), so please don't ask.

I also have a blog - i, the siren - over at Blogger. It's pretty random (in updates as well as content). Or you could check out [info]sevensirens for my business endeavors. Or [info]bittersend for my writing.
I'm also on...

6:09 am - Finally got around to uploading some vids.

I don't know why Marsha decided to talk about comb-overs but it was the end of the first Broward Barack Beach Bash (sometime in the spring or early summer of `08) and I think the stress of setting up the whole event by myself, plus the heat of the day had finally gotten to me. Why not torment someone else? :D

This was an early event for Broward for Obama, the lovely blonde is Robyn one of our main organizers. That was held in a pretty poor area and it was kind of amazing how many people had never registered to vote or thought they couldn't register for some reason. And by some reason I mean voter disenfranchisement. We got quite a few new voters, helped a few people who'd recently gotten out of prison well on their way to registering or re-registering and generally had a good time. This was part of a larger event called Foster Fun Fest at Foster Park.

My cats are so cute.

Despite being sick and groggy from tons of cold meds which are probably doing nothing for my flu I am very much filled with joy.

That might just be the drugs talking but I'll take it! :D

7:31 am - Dooooom
The clock continues to tick away on Mr. Maliki's 72-hour ultimatum for Mr. Sadr's Mahdi Army militia to lay down its weapons in Basra or face all-out assault. At the moment, witnesses in Basra say there appears to be no sign of any letup in fighting between government forces and the Shiite gunmen, who are said to still control 75 percent of the city.

But stay the course! ::stabs::

Defense Secretary Robert Gates has formally ordered the Air Force, Navy and Defense Logistics Agency to conduct an inventory of all U.S. nuclear weapons and nuclear weapon-related materials to make sure all items are accounted for...Pentagon officials said the request was ordered, in part, because this latest incident comes after the August 2007 accidental flight of six nuclear-tipped cruise missiles on a B-52 bomber across the country...Four officers --- including three colonels -- were relieved of duty last year after a B-52 bomber mistakenly carried six nuclear warheads from North Dakota to Louisiana, the Air Force said.

WTF and how did I not hear about this??

...as middle-class Americans feel the pinch of an economic downturn, rising gas prices and a housing crunch, especially in a state like California that has been rocked by foreclosures.

This lady in the article above? Sell the velour couch (there is a pimp somewhere weeping silently, yearning for a velour couch...please, think of the pimps), sell the art, pawn the jewelry and get a job at McDonalds. You're that hard up that you're hitting up a food bank? McDonalds is aaaaalways hiring.

I live in South Florida, it's expensive to live here too. I've used food stamps. I've gotten my wardrobe from Thrift Stores and yard sales. Bulk trash for furniture. You know what? No matter how hard your life is someone else has it harder (my life is relatively easy, trust me). Suck it up and get a crappy job, shove you and your family into one bedroom and rent out the other ones. Do what you gotta do and quit whining about how tough it is. People who actually lived through the Depression are probably thinking we're all a bunch of pansies. Things are nowhere near as hard as they COULD be and there's a good chance they will get much, much worse before it gets any better. So we need to get off our collective asses, stop waiting for the government to fix our problems and DO SOMETHING OTHER THAN COMPLAIN.

You know, myself included. ;)

1:19 pm - This is all I want.

Created to take a stand against the greatest threat our planet has ever faced, Earth Hour uses the simple action of turning off the lights for one hour to deliver a powerful message about the need for action on global warming.

~*~*~

A chunk of Antarctic ice about seven times the size of Manhattan suddenly collapsed, putting an even greater portion of glacial ice at risk, scientists said Tuesday.

Satellite images show the runaway disintegration of a 160-square-mile chunk in western Antarctica, which started Feb. 28. It was the edge of the Wilkins ice shelf and has been there for hundreds, maybe 1,500 years.

This is the result of global warming, said British Antarctic Survey scientist David Vaughan.
